Fair Trade

As promised, we have a number of new products for 2012! Although our teas have always come from either Fair Trade or Ethical Tea Partnership sources, we’re thrilled that all of our coffees now come from Fair Trade sources.  We chose to support Fair Trade because we can help:

  • stabilize prices to farmers for their products
  • provide extra income for farmers and plantation workers to improve their lives
  • create greater respect for the environment
  • establish a closer link between ourselves and our producers
  • create a stronger position for small farmers in world markets

Fair Trade helps third world communities become more self-sustaining. With Fair Trade, the extra income allows these communities to provide education, health care and a sustainable income to farmers. This allows them to improve their quality of life and have a brighter future for themselves and their families. Many of the same things we’ve come to expect in our own country.

Greetings,

It’s been a very busy and successful year for many! Girard Redmond Community Catholic School was the last organization to run their fundraising event with us this year. Congratulations to the organizers and students for doing such a phenomenal job with their Savory Naturals Fundraiser! Kudos to everyone involved… these events take a lot of time and effort to organize and their success is truly a testament to the spirit at Gerard Redmond and others who run fundraising campaigns!

Be sure to check in soon as we will be introducing new products early in 2012.

As the holiday season quickly approaches, we at Savory Naturals, wish you, your families and friends the very best for the upcoming season. May you all be safe, healthy, successful and enjoy the time you spend with your families and friends.

Kindest regards,

Folks have asked what it was that inspired me to start Savory Naturals fundraising programs. Here’s my story… I started my first successful business in 1997. I was selling soap, aromatherapy and candle making supplies. As my company grew and became more well known, I began to receive the occasional request to support different causes. Some of the requests were in the form of silent auction items (gift baskets and gift certificates), then progressed to  financial assistance to sponsor children’s sports teams, school activities, lunch programs and so on. Soon more and more requests for corporate sponsorship starting coming in. There were so many worthwhile causes. But I was a small business owner. I had a storefront and offered mail order services for the supplies I sold and eventually had a staff of 5 I needed to pay. The overhead was getting higher as rents and supplies were going up, and I was limited in who and what I was able to support. I felt badly that I wasn’t able to do more, but felt good at what I was able to accomplish.

After selling my business, I continued with my personal gifting and thought there must be a better way to help organizations raise funds for their causes by selling items other than chocolates and the like. I felt that I could make a better contribution by selling items that were ethical, where possible ~ organically farmed or fair trade and sustainable. Of course, I had to put some fun stuff in there too, so the iTunes Gift Cards and Fun Flasher Pins.

My hope is to be able to help more organizations. Not just the folks raising the funds, but the suppliers I’ve secured to provide the products.

Well there you go… now you know a little about me and why I started Savory Naturals.
